Summary
Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain 2018-2019 GSX250R motorcycles. Water intrusion may corrode the rear brake light switch causing the rear brake light to fail to illuminate or remain illuminated continuously when the brake is not applied.
Remedy
Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rear brake stop light switch, free of charge. The recall began June 28, 2019. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-800-934-0934. Suzuki’s number for this recall is 2A90.

Suzuki Motor Corporation has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2018 – 2019 model-year GSX250R/RZ/RZA motorcycles.

What is the defect?
Water intrusion into the rear brake stop lamp switch can cause corrosion of internal parts, which can lead to the stop lamp failing to illuminate when only the rear brake is applied, or remaining illuminated continuously when the ignition is on. Failure of the stop lamp to illuminate when braking or continuous illumination of the stop lamp when the brakes are not being used increases the risk of a rear crash.
What your dealership will do:
- Verify the unit is affected as instructed below.
- Replace the rear brake stop lamp switch assembly with the countermeasure part.
- Submit a warranty claim.

Verify if the motorcycle is affected by the safety recall:
Confirm the recall status by checking the vehicle identification number (VIN) against the Vehicle Master in Suzuki Connect to see if the motorcycle is eligible for the campaign inspection and replacement procedure. During the week of June 24, 2019, Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (SMAI) will mail notifications to owners of affected motorcycles for whom we have information. The notice instructs the customer to contact a Suzuki dealer to schedule an appointment for the repair.
If you have sold an affected motorcycle to a customer prior to receiving this bulletin, please contact the customer immediately to arrange for the vehicle to be returned to your dealership for this safety recall campaign.

Precautions:
- To avoid getting burned, do not touch the engine and exhaust system until they have cooled.
- Before the repair work, wash dirt from the vehicle to prevent contamination.
- When removing parts to be reused, arrange them in an orderly manner so they can be reinstalled in the proper order and orientation.
- Refer to the Service Manual for any details or procedures not mentioned in these instructions.
Repair Procedure:
Removal:
- Remove the front seat. (Refer to section 9D Seat Removal and Installation.)
- Remove the negative (-) lead wire (1) from the battery.
- Remove the under center cowling. (Refer to Section 9D Under Center Cowling Removal and Installation.)
- Remove the right-side cowling assemblies.
(Refer to Section 9D Side Cowling / Inner Cowling / Under Cowling Removal and Installation.)
- Remove the right-side under cowlings. (Refer to Section 9D Side Cowling / Inner Cowling / Under Cowling Removal and Installation.)
- Remove the right-side frame side cover (Refer to Section 9D Frame Side
Front Cover / Frame Side Lower Cover / Frame Side Cover Removal and Installation.)
- Disconnect the rear stop lamp switch coupler (1).
- Remove the clamp (1).
- Remove the right-side mounting bolts (1) for the front footrest bracket.
- Loosen the adjuster nut (1) and remove the rear stop lamp switch and spring (2).
Installation:
- Install the upper hook of the spring (2) on the rear stop lamp switch (1) of the countermeasure part, and secure it to the footrest bracket.
NOTE:
Install the hook (A) of the spring so that it faces toward the front of the motorcycle as shown.
- Install the lower hook (1) of the rear stop lamp switch spring on the brake pedal.
- Install the front footrest assembly (1) and tighten the front footrest bracket mounting bolts (2) to the specified torque.
Tightening torque:
Front footrest bracket mounting bolt (a):
23 N•m (2.3 kgf-m, 17.0 lbf-ft)
- Install the rear stop lamp switch harness (1) and use a clamp to secure it to the following parts:
- Negative (-) battery lead wire (3)
- Side stand switch lead wire (4)
- Starter motor lead wire (5)
- Tip-over sensor lead wire (6)
- Generator lead wire (7)
- Connect the rear stop lamp switch coupler (1).
- Confirm the rear stop lamp switch turns on just before you feel pressure when pushing down on the rear brake pedal. Make any necessary adjustments by turning the adjuster nut (1) in or out while holding the pedal.
- Install the side frame side cover assemblies.
(Refer to Section 9D Frame Side Front Cover / Frame Side Lower Cover / Frame Side Cover Removal and Installation.)
- Install the side under cowlings. (Refer to Section 9D Side Cowling / Inner Cowling / Under Cowling Removal and Installation.)
- Install the side cowling assemblies. (Refer to Section 9D Side Cowling / Inner Cowling / Under Cowling Removal and Installation.)
- Install the under center cowling. (Refer to Section 9D Under Center Cowling Removal and Installation.)
- Connect the negative (-) battery lead wire to the battery.
- Install the front seat. (Refer to Section 9D Seat Removal and Installation.)
- Confirm each part is properly installed and secured, confirm the rear stop lamp turns on properly, and reset the clock on the instrument panel. (Refer to page 3-9 of the Owner’s Manual.)

What is the defect and what will your dealership do to correct it?
Water intrusion into the rear brake stop lamp switch can cause corrosion of internal parts, which can lead to the stop lamp failing to illuminate when only the rear brake is applied, or remaining illuminated continuously when the ignition is on. Failure of the stop lamp to illuminate when braking or continuous illumination of the stop lamp when the brakes are not being used increases the risk of a rear crash.
Your Suzuki dealer will install an improved rear stop lamp switch assembly. This procedure will take approximately one hour to complete. Parts are available now, and there will be no charge to you for any recall service-related parts or labor.

- Please take this notice to your dealer to help your dealer process your claim.
What to do if you receive this notice in error:
This notice was mailed to you according to the latest information that is available to us. If you no longer own the Suzuki motorcycle described in this notice, please complete and return the attached Change of Address/Ownership card to Suzuki Motor of America, Inc., and forward this recall information to the current owner (if known).
Federal regulations require that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days.
Customer reimbursement for prior repairs related to this safety recall:
If your motorcycle is included in this recall and you have paid for repairs to address failure of the rear brake stop lamp switch due to corrosion of internal parts, you may be eligible for full or partial reimbursement. Please note the following conditions for reimbursement:
- Only repairs made to address the defects that led to this recall are reimbursable. Additional expenses such as towing, car rental, accommodations, damage repairs, etc., will not be reimbursed. Reimbursement will not be provided for routine scheduled maintenance.
- Reimbursement may be limited to the suggested list price for parts, the Suzuki published flat-rate time allowance for the repair, and the labor rate that an authorized Suzuki dealer in the same area would charge for the same repair.
- An owner will not be eligible for reimbursement if the expenses for repairs are incurred more than 10 days after the date of this notice.
- Reimbursement claims may also be excluded when adequate documentation is not submitted by the claimant.
This includes a proof of ownership, a repair order, and proof of payment for the repair.

Dear Sirs and Madams,
This letter is to inform you of the “Rear Brake Light Switch Replacement Recall Campaign” for GSX250R produced by CHANGZHOU HAOJUE SUZUKI MOTORCYCLE CO., LTD. ‘(CZHS), from December 10, 2015 (SOP) to March 6, 2019
Due to improper material for component parts were used in the rear brake light switch, the component parts in the switch will corrode by intrusion of water.
Continued use in this condition, poor conductivity or short circuit will occurs in the brake switch circuit. In worst case, the break light will not activate or continue to lighting.
In view of the nature of this problem, Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) has decided to carry out the Recall Campaign in your market. The details are explained in the following pages.
You are kindly requested to organize the Recall Campaign for the affected units in your market. If you are required to report to your authority, please contact them according to your law.
If you have affected units in your warehouse, you are required to remedy them before releasing to your dealers. You are also immediately required to instruct your dealers to remedy the affected unit in stock if any, before delivering them to the customers.
Please make sure that no customers will receive the affected units without appropriate Recall campaign remedy.

Safety Recall 2A89: UH200A CVT
Driven Face Replacement
Suzuki has issued a safety recall for certain 2018
and 2019 UH200 (Burgman 200) scooters.
As outlined in GV/AN/UH No. 053, holes for the rivets
that fasten the component parts of the continuously
variable transmission (CVT) movable driven face
(drive plate) have a shape that may cause the rivet
connections to be insufficient.
Continued use of the scooter with this condition
may allow excessive stress to be applied to the rivet
connections when accelerating, and the movable
driven face of the CVT may break while riding.
If the movable driven face of the CVT breaks while
riding, the scooter will become disabled, increasing
the risk of a crash.
As always, be sure to access the Vehicle Master
Inquiry in Suzuki Connect to check if a customer
unit or any unit in your inventory is affected by this
safety recall. If a unit is affected, follow the repair procedure as outlined in the Technical Service Bulletin (TSB)
and submit a warranty claim before selling or delivering the unit to a customer.

Non-OEM Brake Lever Reminder
When your dealership performs a Front Brake
Master Cylinder Safety Recall repair, please keep
the following precautions in mind concerning non-
OEM brake levers:
As we noted in GS/GSX/GSX-R No. 230, Suzuki
has received a small number of reports of the front
brake dragging and overheating when non-OEM
brake levers are incorrectly installed following the
master cylinder replacement.
Dimensionally, the recall master cylinder is the same
as the original part, and Suzuki strongly recommends
only the use of Suzuki Genuine brake levers.
Advise your customer that if they elect to
install a non-OEM (non-Suzuki) brake lever, any
damage resulting from improper selection of a
lever and/or installation of the lever will be their
responsibility.

Safety Recall 2A90: GSX250R Rear Brake Light Switch
This new recall for the GSX250R/RZ/RZAL8-L9 Rear Brake Light Switch (Campaign 2A90) is very similar to
the GW250 Rear Brake Light Switch (Campaign 2A66).
As referenced in Suzuki’s official Stop Sale Bulletin, water can get into the rear brake light switch and cause
corrosion, resulting in the brake light not activating or remaining turned on continuously.
Your dealership’s part in this safety recall is fairly straightforward:
1) Check the Suzuki Connect Vehicle Master Inquiry to see if units in your inventory, as well as customer
units in your shop for service, are affected by this recall.
2) If the Vehicle Master Inquiry shows a unit as being affected, replace the rear brake light switch assembly
with the countermeasure part.
3) File a warranty claim for it on Suzuki Connect.
SDS-II Battery Lead Wire Needed
for Servicing RM-Z250/450 Models
Republished from the August 2016 edition of SSI
Field Service Manager David “Woody” Woodcock
recently reminded us that you’ll need the special
Battery Lead Wire, P/N 36890-28H00, when
connecting SDS-II to the RM-Z250/450 models.
The Battery Lead Wire is plugged into the RM-Z’s
ECU coupler, as well as an external battery. This
enables the RM-Z’s ECU to be powered up without
the engine running; it also supplies power to SDS-II.
The power adapter cable that comes with the SDS-II
kit can only be used on Suzuki models that have an
onboard battery.
The Battery Lead Wire was originally auto-shipped
to Suzuki dealers in early 2008, but if you need to
order another one, you can do so using the normal
parts ordering procedure on Suzuki Connect.

Service Reminder Reset for the
LT-A500X/XP and LT-A750X/XP
After servicing a 2019 LT-A500X/XP or LT-A750X/XP,
be sure to perform the service reminder reset.
The procedure for both models is exactly the same,
which you can find in the Service Manuals under:

Here is the Service Manual procedure at a glance:
NOTE:
The service reminder cannot be reset by simply
disconnecting the battery cables from the battery.
1. Before you start, confirm the current time,
number of running hours or service reminder

2. Remove the seat.
3. Connect your Suzuki mode select switch
(P/N 09930-82720) to the 6P mode select
coupler on the wiring harness.

6. Press the combination meter button to show
RESET on the display.
7. Press the button a second time and hold it for
about 2 seconds to enter the reminder reset
mode.
NOTE:
Initially the reset reminder will show 100h on the
display.
8. Press the button a third time to select the
timing for the next service reminder.
Each time you press the button, the interval
for next service reminder increases by 20
hours. After 200h is displayed, the meter will
start over at 20h.
NOTE:
If the ignition switch is turned OFF during this
procedure, the data you are entering will be lost.
9. To exit the reminder reset model, press and
hold the button for about 2 seconds.
10. Make sure the service inspection interval you
selected is indicated on the display.
11. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect
the mode select switch.
12. Install the seat.
